Hi, my name is Elaine Barnett. I’m a lifelong resident of Clermont County, and I have seen over the years how the great people of our county have been given fewer and fewer choices on the ballot. That is why I am running for Clermont County Auditor.
Growing up in the Eastgate area, my mother was a stay-at-home parent and my father worked for Cincinnati Milacron in the field service division, so throughout my childhood he traveled during the week and was home on the weekends. My parents chose this path to give us a better life. Seeing my parents make this decision taught me the value of sacrificing for ones children.
After graduating from Glen Este High School with honors, I enrolled in college but decided to take a break to marry and have children. My husband and I grew apart and after a few years we divorced, leaving me a single mother to three children. Informed by the strong values of sacrifice that my parents instilled in me, I went back to work to provide for them.
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work for a marketing company where I excelled, and a mentor helped me advance my career. After being denied a promotion because I lacked a college degree, I made the difficult choice to go back to college. A few weeks later I was enrolled at University of Cincinnati Blue Ash and in the spring of 2008 I completed an Associates Degree in Business Administration. I had planned to transfer to the UC main campus to finish my Bachelors Degree, until a professor told me I should look into Xavier University. I couldn’t believe it, but I followed through and got in contact with a guidance counselor at Xavier and was admitted. I graduated with honors in 2011. Elaine now lives in Milford with her husband Chris.
I have been a lifelong member of the Democratic Party and have become more active in the local party in recent years. I originally got involved with West Clermont Dems back in 2014 and have since served as secretary and president of the club. I was elected precinct captain in 2016 and have had a seat on the executive committee since 2017 as president of WCD. My commitment to the people of Clermont County is that when elected I will serve full time as your auditor.
